  • Make OOTF meetings a friendly and welcoming event where people can do advocacy together, respecting each person’s contribution and independence in addition to embracing the diversity of members.
  • Treat all OOTF members with equal respect and in a fair way during meetings.
  • Be honest and courteous in all communications: in person, on the phone, during meetings, in writing, and through email. Don’t exaggerate. If you don’t know whether or not what you heard is true, ask questions before making what could be a wrong statement.
  • Promote OOTF’s message to others but remember that only members that OOTF has named ahead of time can speak on behalf of all of OOTF as an organization.
  • Support OOTF in the community. Don’t make harmful comments about OOTF.
  • Treat internal discussions and plans as confidential, including details of planned advocacy events, contacts, and non-public financial information.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest. Tell OOTF and its Chair or Vice-chair if you have a real, or what might be viewed, as a conflict of interest. Example: you work for or are part of an organization that has control over OOTF or could be seen as a rival.
  • OOTF leaders should respond on time to complaints or concerns from members or others when another member has not followed this code of ethics.
  • All members must follow the OOTF Code of Ethics.
